Student Life
As a small residential school GLCHS has a rich and robust student life that includes activities that go beyond the typical after school programs. Students find themselves playing pick-up basketball or badminton in Open Gym, participating in devotionals, Bible studies or prayer time, conveniently meeting for group projects or relaxing together in one of the common rooms over a game of foosball or ping pong.
Cherish friendships that are begun,
As we work, play and together
To prepare for the race we must run.
–School Song
Since GL is such a small community, I have been given the opportunity to participate and try out things that I never would have been able to in a larger school.”
Siann Gault, Class of 2015
“It was important to me to participate and be on a team while at GL. It added to my school experience because while on the team you got to know your team members outside of school.”
Maeve McLeod, Class of 2015
“While on the track and field team I got to try new things I had never done before like discus and javelin along with another girl from a different grade I never really talked to. Because of joining track and field I am now friends with her!”
Maeve McLeod, Class of 2015
“Being so involved made me more comfortable and confident, and gave me the courage to take on leadership roles after I graduated. It really helped me come out of my shell.”
Chineze Nwebube, Class of 2009
“I chose to pursue theatre on a professional level because I discovered and grew my love of acting on the Great Lakes stage.”
Sam Devries, Class of 2013
“Over my four years here, of sitting in classes and chapel, laughing with friends, singing in the chorus, hanging up streamers for banquets, and so much more, I was able to grow and develop into the person I am today – a person who is prepared to take on the world head on.”

“Since the school has a high quantity of residential students, including myself, the staff and teachers at GL have taken on a role in our lives that is, in a way, parental. They care about what’s going on in our lives.”
